The 20th annual GED Graduation Ceremony for Adult Literacy Services was held on June 9th, 2005, at the Jackson Arts Center of Bristol Community College. Fifty-seven graduates from the campus GED program and testing center, from community locations in Fall River and Taunton and from workplace education programs at various locations were honored. One out of every seven high school diplomas issued each year in the United States is issued to a GED graduate. Former GED graduates include well-known actors and businessmen such as Bill Cosby and Wendy's founder Dave Thomas. During the spring semester at Bristol Community College, 444 GED graduates were actively enrolled in credit programming. Educational attainment is strongly associated with better health and programs that advance education contribute to the overall health of the city.
