Clinic on
Communications
was held on May 20th at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, for providers of programs that enhance health. This workshop
was
designed to demonstrate the key elements of a communication plan for
groups wishing to get a particular message out to the public. A workshop
following the presentation focused on bridging the cultural and linguistic gap in public
communications with non-English-speaking populations.
Diane Barry, MS, is an expert in health communications, particularly
in the areas of substance abuse and violence prevention. She serves as
senior communications officer for
Educational Development Center in Newton, MA, and for Health and
Health and Human Development programs.
She works in several communities throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island
helping them to communicate more effectively about public health issues.
She is an adjunct professor at the Boston University School of Public
Health, where she teaches health communications in the graduate program.
