The Maplewood Neighborhood Association held a Pot Luck Supper on October 26, 2005, that brought local residents together to talk about the benefits of living in the Maplewood section of the city. Susan Downey, of the Medical Foundation in Boston and a consultant for the United Way, facilitated a visioning process in which residents shared their common feelings about their beautiful neighborhood, safe streets and wonderful (Maplewood) park. Participants discussed common concerns, such as the increase in small housing developments in their neighborhood. They also shared their hopes and dreams for the future, which included ideas for programming and activities, such as ice skating in the concrete pond and a skate park for skate boards and in-line skates. The group hopes to continue to meet together using the pot luck dinner format, which was a successful way to meet and work together. Tobacco Control Coordinator Marilyn Edge also presented an update on current tobacco regulations and new retail items that are targeted specifically at youth. .
