Fall River is the only major Southeastern Massachusetts cities with a municipal swimming pool and has the good fortune of having two facilities, one at Lafayette Park operated by the Commonwealth and one at Kennedy Park operated by the City. Each facility provides a safe recreational outlet to hundreds of Fall River children and adults each summer. Both are open daily from noon to 6:00 p.m. between mid-June and mid-August. The state-funded pool is free of charge, while the municipal pool charges 50 cents for children and one dollar for adults. Many local camping programs bus children to the Lafayette pool as part of their daily program.

(Top row) Ashley Santos, Yaleida Quinones, Yaritza Vega and Kaitlyn Vazquez take a backward plunge into the Lafayette Park pool while their friends practice handstands in the water. Ashley Kerns emerges from the water after doing her imitation of a whale. (Middle row) Kids enjoy one of the last open days at the Kennedy Park pool. Tanisha Rebello makes good use of the newly installed water slide at the state-run Veteran's Memorial Swimming Pool on Eastern Avenue. (Bottom row) Divers use one of the new diving blocks installed earlier in the spring with a $55,000 improvement project which also paid for a new lifeguard stand and pool bottom resurfacing, while a lifeguard keeps a close eye on the swimmers.
