YMCAs across America attempted to tally
one billion cumulative steps across the country in the "America
on the Move" walk across the U.S.. At the
Fall River Y,
members
reached 6.7 million steps this week, with many of the most active people
being Senior women
who tracked every activity in which they participated. For example, 181
steps per minute were attributed to swimming freestyle. This was a
national endeavor set forth by YMCA USA
and Pepsico designed to motivate
and inspire people across the country to take "small steps" to promote
active living and healthy eating. The event is part of a national
program to combat obesity in children and diabetes, an endemic
that is quickly overtaking our nation. The YMCA teamed up with
Southcoast Hospitals and
Kramer Chiropractors
to make this week-long event possible. Contact
Mike Mahoney at the
Fall River Y at 508-675-7841 for more information. |
