As part of their "Resolution Solution" series, the Diabetes Association, Inc., held a session on stress management and an introduction to yoga to expand the repertoire of persons with diabetes or those seeking to prevent the onset of the disease. Held on January 25, 2006, at their Pleasant Street headquarters, the session brought the expertise of Norma Mello, RN, CDE (certified Diabetes Educator), who taught participants some valuable techniques for de-stressing their diabetes management. Yoga instructor Tom Carr brought his twenty years of teaching experience to introduce some basic stretching exercises to participants. Tom teaches these simple exercises that anyone can use to stay flexible while emphasizing the importance of proper breathing. These techniques can be used by anyone including persons in wheelchairs. In addition to these two sessions, a session on ballroom dancing was offered to participants that evening. More information about the programs of the Diabetes Association of Fall River and New Bedford can be obtained by calling 508-672-5671.
