The Diabetes Association and the Family Services Association teamed up to put on a "Families Raising Healthy Kids" event at the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium on November 9, 2006. Children and staff from Family Service Association after-school day care sites were invited to hear a presentation by Captain Nutrition (Bill Daponte from the Diabetes Association) on making healthier choices. Officials from Family Services and the Diabetes Association were joined by Mayor Edward M. Lambert, Jr. and the Timothy Cotter, President of Bank Five, for the presentation of awards and prizes to the winners of a coloring contest sponsored by the Bank. The event was held during National Family Week, held each November, to provide information and education on thinking and behavior as they relate to good health and strong families.
