Begun in the late 1990s, the First Congregational Church has organized eleven basketball teams for boys and girls from the fourth grade through high school. Playing in the larger Catholic Youth Organization league, teams compete against kids from throughout the city and a few surrounding towns. Practice is held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in the nearly century old gymnasium above the Church's social hall on Cherry Street. Director Paul Anderson not only recruits and oversees the volunteer coaches but also works with other church members to put on fundraisers, such as the Make a Difference Day yard sale held on October 28, 2006. For more information about the teams, contact Jennifer at the church office at 508-672-5862.
