Over 800 men participated on 43 slow pitch softball teams in 2006 at Father Kelly Park in the Globe. Teams were  composed of men, women, seniors and co-ed players from Fall River and surrounding communities who played every day of the week between April and November. Teams, including Fall River teams Rogers, Riggins and CNN, competed against one another in a round-robin series in October. The top four teams receive a trophy and three players are awarded Most Valuable Player status at an annual award event in the fall. Jack Hackett, who oversees the leagues along with John Corbishley, commented that it's getting harder to recruit younger players. "There are too many distractions with television and computer games these days," he said. He would like to see more adults build sports into their weekly routine as a way to have fun and get exercise at the same time.
