National Night Out, a nationwide crime prevention effort focused on improving relationships between the police and the community, was celebrated in Fall River on August 1, 2006. Starting at Maplewood Park with a ceremony to honor Neighborhood Heroes by the leaders of the nine neighborhood associations, the event then moved by police motorcade to Griffin Park in the Corky Row neighborhood where the Fall River Police Department and the District Attorney's Office sponsored a two-hour event for residents that included an X-Games performance. Maplewood and Corky Row are both part of a new Weed & Seed program funded through the District Attorney's office with federal crime prevention funds. Former Red Sox pitcher Brian Rose was on hand earlier in the day at a softball game held at Maplewood Park. For more information about the event, contact Youth Coordinator Christian McCloskey at 508-324-2419.
