Over forty participants in this year's YouthWorks program arrived at the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium on August 24, 2006, to participate in the third annual Scavenger Hunt. Following a morning session at the Career Center, the teens gathered in four teams under the direction of Youth Services Coordinator Christian McCloskey who organizes the event each year. Requirements for successful completion of the hunt included answers to the following questions: What is the thought of the day in the Herald News? Where do you register to vote?  Grab a pamphlet from this room. How would you open a bank account at Fall River Five? Where is there a bookstore in Fall River?  What building is a replica of the city hall in Paris?  What is the number on the Big Mamie?  What programs are offered to youth at the YMCA?  What “historical” building has a fake bookcase that was an entrance to the underground railroad?  How many flags are there in Gromada Plaza?Take a team photo with a smiling police officer. This exercise not only teaches a lot of valuable and practical information to teens, since it is all done on foot, it also provides a lot of heart-healthy exercise. Winners were announced the next day at the concluding session held in the City Hall chambers. For more information or correct answers to the above questions, contact Christian McCloskey at 508-324-2419.
