Volunteers are critical to
the successful management and stewardship of the
Bioreserve, an ongoing community project located largely within the
city limits of Fall River. Several dozen volunteers joined a work crew
on April 8, 2006, to construct a new trail loop at Copicut Woods
complete with a boardwalk across the Miller Brook. The group included
local Boy Scouts and others who have an interest in maintaining the
natural environment. Led by Property Manager and Education Director
Linton Harrington of
The Trustees of Reservations, the group took a heart-healthy
15-minute walk to the site of the new trail and then began to clear
brush along the path marked by magenta colored ribbons. Another part of
the crew worked on laying spilt red and white cedar logs across shorter
locust logs to create a path across Miller Brook. For more information
about programs, including many walks throughout the year (Cedar
Swamp, Mowry
Path,
Promised Land and
Stone Walk),

(Top row, left) Property Manager Michael Labossiere points to the area on the map at the Copicut Wood kiosk where the new trail will be located. (Top row, center) Education Director Linton Harrington leads the group through the woods to the start of the new trail. (Top row, right) Several local Boy Scouts join the effort and begin clearing the new path. (Middle row) Volunteers use loppers to cut away small branches and saplings for the path marked by magenta ribbons. (Bottom row) Mr. Labossiere demonstrates to the group how they will construct a new cedar path over an area near Miller Brook. Recent rain following an otherwise record dry spring made the task more challenging! |
