The Judy Williams Women's First Edition Slowpitch Softball League currently consists of four teams: Averteck, Inc., Twice As Nice, Wild/Katz and "Dalinkwents." These four teams meet each other on Thursday evenings at Father Kelly Park in the South End. Slowpitch softball has been played in Fall River since 1963. According to League Director Roger Laferriere who started with the league in 1975, the current number of participants, 67 players ranging in age from 16 to 51, is down from previous years. "Fewer of our women players are under 30," reports Laferriere. "It’s getting harder to interest younger players to stay involved as adults. Hopefully, the current rising interest in girls softball will translate into more young adult players," he speculates. Click here to see what's offered for girls and here for boys.
