Fall River youth had several options for summer employment supported by city funding in the summer of 2006. The largest of these programs is YouthWorks, funded by the Commonwealth through the city. The employment incorporates work-based learning, community service and leadership opportunities. This year, 54 youth took jobs in various city departments, including the Parks Department, Water Department, Public Works Department, Sewer Department, Traffic Department, and the School Department. The youth work 30 hours a week, Monday through Friday. The program runs from July 10th through August 25th. In addition, the Department of Public Works hires a small number of young people to help with summertime projects that require additional staff. For more information about the program, contact Youth Services Coordinator Christian McCloskey at 508-324-2419.
