As part of its bi-monthly series of special events, the Big Friends Little Friends mentoring program held a Healthy Choices learning event for mentors and mentees on January 22, 2007, at the Family Service Association's offices at 101 Rock Street. Carol Weber of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program at the HealthFirst Family Care Center taught the group how to make healthier food choices among foods that they commonly eat. The group learned ways of reducing fats and excessive calories by choosing foods more wisely and by emphasizing the use of fewer processed foods in their diet. Everyone had a chance to sample some healthy choices by making their own trail mix using whole grain cereals, nuts raisins and other dried fruits. For more information about the Big Friends Little Friends program, Contact Katje Fuson at 508-730-1138, Ext. 3155; To enroll a child, contact Ramona Turcotte at 508-730-1138, X3244.
