Brownie Troop No. 1003 recently toured the Shaw's Supermarket on William S. Canning Boulevard to learn about eating balanced meals. Troop leader Nicole Garrafa used the trip as part of a lesson on healthy eating that the girls need to get their Brownie badges. The girls -- all from the first, second and third grades in the Fall River school system -- were taught how the color of a fruit or vegetable can show the presence of vitamins and minerals. The girls were introduced to the different varieties of fruits such as kiwi, papaya and star fruit that may not be familiar to them.
