The
Child Nutrition Partnership
held an informational workshop, "Helping to Feed Our Children," on
available nutritional services on January 30, 2007, at the Veteran's
Memorial Auditorium on Bank Street. The workshop focused on ways that
the different organizations that serve thousands of meals to Fall River youth in a variety of settings, including
schools and
the summer Lunch in the Park program,
can work together more effectively. Children in 19 of the
city's 21 elementary schools receive a free breakfast every day, regardless of family
income. After school snack programs open to all students, the summer lunch program and
an evening meal program at the
Boys and Girls
Club ensure adequate nutrition to many children who would not have
an alternative. An annual
infant food drive
also raises
funds for healthy foods for children served through the
Women, Infants and
Children (WIC) program. |
