When it comes to vegetables, the Comstock family on Lonsdale Street knows how to grow them. Barry Comstock has worked on farms throughout his life. He has had a garden for most of the 38 years he has lived at their current location. He raises tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, kale, peppers and a little corn, depending on what will grow each season. His wife, Pauline, loves to cook using the produce from the garden. The family also supplements their diet with fish that Barry and his daughter Melissa and son Nathaniel catch in a variety of locations around the area. "This is all good food without any chemicals," comments Pauline. "You can just pick it and eat it." Nathaniel is studying culinary arts at Bristol Community College and hopes to work as a chef on a cruise ship or perhaps his own restaurant someday. For those who cannot raise their own, fresh vegetables can also be purchased from the Kennedy Park Farmer's Market and the Ruggles Park Farmers Markets.
