The Healthy City Fall River WALKS project held its third walk on May 9, 2007, at Kennedy Park near St. Anne's Hospital. Over seventy-five walkers joined the event that highlights some of the walking routes throughout the city identified on the Healthy City web site by a task force on walking. “We want to encourage people to get together to walk on a regular basis," stated Healthy City Coordinator David Weed. Plans are in place to locate bulletin board throughout the city where walkers can organize groups. The project also encourages physicians and other medical providers to prescribe walking along with medications for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other conditions that can be reduced or eliminated with regular exercise.
