National Night Out, a nationwide crime prevention effort focused on improving relationships between the police and the community, was celebrated in Fall River on August 7, 2007, at the Maplewood NSF, Griffin Park and at Kennedy Park where the Fall River Police Department and the District Attorney's Office sponsored a two-hour event for residents that included an X-Games performance. Events at Kennedy Park included a climbing wall and movies on the lawn, including The Bus Stop, a health promotion film produced locally by B.M.C. Durfee High School students and a full-length feature film, Harry Potter. Funding made possible through a Weed & Seed grant funded the X-treme team, Maximum Velocity, to stage two shows at Griffin Park as well as to provide FRPD motorcycle, bicycle and canine unit personnel at both Griffin and Kennedy Parks. Thanks to Seth Hockert-Lotz and Domino's and the Ferry Street Ministry, the Corky Row neighborhood enjoyed pizza, soft drinks and cookies. Click here for pictures of the 2006 event at Griffin Park. For more information about the event, contact Youth Coordinator Christian McCloskey at 508-324-2419.
