Speak Up Fall River partnered with the International Institute of Culinary Arts to host An Evening with the City Council Candidates on  September 5, 2007, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Great Hall at the Abbey Grill, 100 Rock Street. All 29 candidates were invited to participate but only 21 were present for the one-hour forum. This was the only event held during the pre-primary season that focused solely on the candidates for the nine city council positions. (Another forum was organized for all candidate to address issues in the Latino community.) A September 11th primary will narrow the field to fifteen. A Citizens' Agenda was formulated at an April 14th forum and included items on youth development, comprehensive planning, housing, conservation and beautification, public administration neighborhoods and human resources. Candidates were asked to respond to items in this agenda. Free hors d'oeuvres were prepared by the students of the International Institute of Culinary Arts with the ingredients provided by sponsors throughout the area and served by several Abbey grill wait staff.
