The
third annual Healthy City Fall River Spring Award Recognition Dinner
took place on April 12, 2007, at the
Heritage
State Park Visitors' Center at Battleship Cove. The event began with
the world premiere of
“The Bus Stop” a terrific 18-minute video depicting health crises in
the lives of teenagers, produced by the students at Durfee High School's
FRED-TV. The award presentations were kicked off by Mayor Edward M.
Lambert, Jr. who talked about the importance of health in a
working-class community.
Massachusetts Partnership for Healthy Communities Director Peter Lee
praised the progress that Fall River has been making to create a
healthier Fall River over the past three years. Healthy City Coordinator
David Weed, Psy. D. compared today's efforts to prevent premature deaths
in Fall River with the work that was done a century ago to prevent
fire-related deaths in the city. "We may someday see a Health Promotion
Bureau in this city equivalent to the Fire Prevention Bureau,"
speculated Weed. Awards were then presented to 32
Action
Plan Participants who have contributed over the past year. Click
