PARTNERS | HEALTHY CITY  | HOW HEALTHY | VISION | SUMMIT | PRIORITIES | FUNCTIONS | CITY OF FALL RIVER

One day in the spring of 2007, Joseph Pausek and girlfriend Jessica Williams stopped to look at the new War Veteran Memorial in Independence Park. As they looked out toward the water, they noticed a lot of pollution that had washed up on the shore. They knew the city was planning some clean ups wondered if there were plans clean up that area. When they contacted the Healthy City coordinator, they learned that the area had not been designated for a clean-up, but the city would be glad to assist them if they would get a group to volunteer. On April 21, 2007, Jessica and Joe were joined by several friends and even some passers-by from the boardwalk who volunteered to help. Within a few hours, including time in a rowboat to access some of the shoreline, they were able to remove dozens of bags of trash, tires, wood and other detritus that has washed ashore. Their efforts are a great example of the Healthy City concept, that people who live and work in the city can take action to improve the quality of life and health. To learn how the city can assist your group with tools and trash pick-up for a clean-up project you would like to do, contact the Mayor's Office at 508-324-2600 or Community Coordinator Maureen Estes at 508-324-2405.
