Over sixty children who participated in the 2007 tennis classes offered by CD-REC had the opportunity to see a national level tennis tournament at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI. Children boarded busses in Fall River and traveled to the Gibson Guitar Champions Cup on August 22nd courtesy of USTA New England Representative Doug Chapman. Somerset/Swansea Tennis Association president and Somerset High School girls' tennis coach Peter Holt led the group and introduced them to the world of professional tennis right in their own backyard. Two of the Fall River students even got the opportunity to serve as ball retrievers on the court! Community Development Re-creation organized tennis classes for over 200 children over the summer of 2007. The program was funded by a USTA New England grant and opened to children aged 6 to 13 For more information, contact CD-REC at 508-679-0522 or Program Director Grace Gerling.
