The Fall River Community
Tennis Association announced the receipt of a $20,000 grant from the
United States Tennis
Association (USTA) on January 31, 2007, to be used to teach and
promote tennis among young people in Fall River. USTA New England
Representative Doug Chapman, who is also the Somerset High School tennis
coach, made the announcement at the Veteran's Memorial at 72 Bank Street
where the educational program will take place between February 5th and
march 29th. The free program for kids 8-12 years old takes place Mondays
through Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. and will include help with
homework and a healthy lifestyles class. The classes will use a special
indoor tennis ball that behaves very much like a standard tennis ball
without the speed. Other programs, including a
tennis
block party and a
tennis
demonstration, were held during the summer of 2006 For more
information, contact CD-REC at
508-679-0522 or Program Director
Grace Gerling. |
