Members of an amateur team calling itself the "Fall River United" soccer team (the name of a professional team that held a national reputation in the 1920s and 1930s) held a practice match at the top of North Park in Fall River on February 17, 2008. Fall River has been home to hundreds of soccer players, many of whom play simply for the enjoyment of the game. Played world-wide, soccer (or futbol) captures more interest than all American sports combined but remains a minor sport in the United States. Soccer provides an excellent aerobic workout and can be part of a healthy lifestyle that serves to reduce health risks and can even be played indoors during winter months..
