The four-month Fall River
Fitness Challenge held its Finale at the Municipal Veteran's Memorial on
Bank Street on May 10, 2008. Over 150 people gathered to hear remarks
from representatives of the
Diabetes Association, Inc.
(DAI), Community Development Recreation
(CD-REC), and Healthy City Fall
River who issued a
public challenge on January 9th
to individuals
living or working in the city of Fall River to collectively lose a ton
of weight (2,000 lbs). Winners were announced by
Mark and Jay
Kruger from Dartmouth, finalists in the NBC television show
"The Biggest Loser."
The Challenge offered participants many low-to-no-cost
resources at CD-REC, the Diabetes Association and the Boys and Girls Club,
including
Zumba
classes, low-impact aerobic classes at the
Diabetes
Association, Inc,
senior
stretching, kickboxing and personal training, as well as
nutrition
classes as well as ten
walking paths designated by Healthy City Fall River. Participants
were eligible to
win prizes
over the five-month challenge.
