The
HealthFirst Family Care Center,
a non-profit community health center, held their Fourth Annual Family
Fun in the Sun event on June 7, 2008. These
free events are designed to emphasize the importance of increased
physical activity, good nutrition and summer safety for the entire
family. Activities
included music and hula-hoop contests provided by DJ Mike Cordeiro of
MC Music Productions, a visit
by Billy Bones the Pirate (Kyle Platt from the B.M.C.
Durfee Theatre Company) and the
Fall River Fire Department’s Sparky the Fire
Dog. World Class Frisbee Champion
Todd Brodeur got kids to try
some tricks with the free frisbees that were given away. The Fall River
Police Association and
Mount Hope Lodge of Masons provided a child identification
program and the Fall River Police Department offered information on child
safety seats. The Police Department and the Police Association also
donated two bicycles each to raffle off to the children. The
Fall River WIC Program provided
healthy snacks and a basketball toss.
