Friends of the Oak Grove Cemetery planted three new trees purchased with a Healthy City Fall River micro-grant on October 25, 2008. The planting was part a planting effort that added new trees to the Cemetery to replace older trees. The Oak Grove Cemetery is one of Fall River's treasures. Built in the mid-1800s, this cemetery was one of the first to be modeled on the park-like design of the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. It affords wonderful walking paths in a natural setting that is quiet and undisturbed. In order to continue to replace older trees, the Friends of Oak Grove Cemetery used the micro-grant from Healthy City Fall and contributions from numerous others to plant 18 new trees in 2008. For more information about the Friends of Oak Grove Cemetery or the planting effort, contact Michael L. Keane.
