The Shepherds Center, an interfaith volunteer non-profit group, held its first "Check-In With Us!" event as part of its six week Lifetime Learning series held at the Bay View Home at 4380 North Main Street. Partnering with the Diabetes Association, the Shepherd Center staff monitored blood pressure, weight, blood sugar and the nutrition of the Lifetime Learning participants.  Weekly monitoring was recorded in a "Passport to Aging in Health" booklet, encouraging participants to watch for things that can "stealthily" impact health if ignored. Participants were encouraged to share the monitored information with their primary care physicians or health care practitioner. The program also included a weekly "taste" of a healthy morning snack and complimentary recipe. This project was funded in part by a Healthy City micro-grant.
