The Shepherds Center, an interfaith volunteer non-profit group, held a session on at the Bay View Home at 4380 North Main Street, on organic gardening with Mary Merhi of Quansett Gardens in Dartmouth. Ms. Mehri farms and keeps 300 laying hens at Quansett Gardens sells her vegetables, fruit, eggs and baked goods at local farmers' markets. She also contribute to the brown bag and other food distribution programs. She grow most of her food without pesticides or commercial fertilizers and labels most of what she sells as organic, including a variety of fruits grown in her orchard. The presentation was designed to introduce participants in the Lifetime Learning program to local farmers. Click here, here, here and here to see some of the other Shepherd Center activities.
