The fourth annual Healthy City Fall River Spring Award Recognition Dinner took place on April 30, 2008, at Our Lady of Light Band Club on Quarry Street. Nearly two hundred people attended the event which honored the thirty-one Action Plan Participants who joined Healthy City Fall River over the past year. Massachusetts Department of Public Health Commissioner praised those in attendance for its excellent work in working to address the high rates of illness and disability among City residents over the past four years. Fall River Housing Authority staff Joe DaSilva and Marin Vatt talk as Bay View Independent Living CEO Bill Girrier looks over the program. Fall River Mayor Robert Correia describes the impact that each person can have on improving the health of the City resulting in big changes.
Michael Coughlin describes the work that Karen Fischer, Paul Leite, Michaela Benigo and Susan Potvin have done to improve safety. Nearly 200 people attended the recognition award dinner at Our Lady of Light Band Club on Quarry Street in Fall River's Flint neighborhood. Massachusetts Department of Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach praises Fall River's work in addressing health concerns.
Jamison Souza and Grace Gerling  and Amber Vlangas and John Quintas are honored for the success of the Fitness Challenge. Mr. Coughlin recognizes Lt. Charles Cullen, Ed Hill  and Judy Lachance for new recreational opportunities for children, adults and seniors. Christian McCloskey, Ed Hill, Janet Shartle, Sharon Ford and Amber Vlangas accept recognition awards for health education.
Mr. Coughlin applauds Lesli Gazerro, Ine Ogagan and Mary Zahm for their contributions to adult education, job training & employment. Mike Kelly, Mike Mahoney, Dawn Nardi and Dr. Nora Ganim Barnes accept their awards for their contributions to health education. Grace Gerling, Jerry Donovan and Leonard Aguiar were recognized for improvements in recreation and housing resources in the City.
Mr. Coughlin praises Fall River Herald News Managing Editor Lisa Stratton for the new Living Well section that promotes personal wellness. Mr. Coughlin thanks Jim Rattray of Southcoast Hospitals and Paul Quinn of St. Anne's Hospital for their support of a conference for physicians. Members of the audience applaud each of the recognition award winners for the work they did to make Fall River a healthier place to live and work.
