The
Fall River Community Tennis Association
(FRCTA) held its signature event, the Fall River Open, under sunny skies
on August 23, 2008, at the new tennis facilities located on the Durfee
High School campus.
Sixty adults and thirty children
competed in the three day event sponsored by: Healthy City Fall River,
CD-REC, the Family Service Association, the Fall River Public Schools,
USTA New
England,
CW Express and Stop and Shop. FRCTA president, Jeff Chace stated that
the event was an," overwhelming success and will continue to grow thanks
to renewed interest in tennis and exposure to the sport through
clinics held by CD REC, Sam Sutter, the Somerset/Swansea Tennis
Association and FRCTA". Next year we are planning for an expanded B draw
and a USTA-sanctioned women's open draw that will feature the best women
player's in New England.
