The recently-produced PBS video "Unnatural Causes . . . is Inequality Making Us Sick?" was the centerpiece of a forum sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) at Rachel's Lakeside Restaurant in Dartmouth on June 25, 2008. The all-day session gave over 100 participants the opportunity to view the video and to hear from two panels of local community leaders respond to the issues it presented. Southeastern Regional DPH Director Ron O'Connor, who organized the forum, noted the importance of the session in helping community leaders and the public to understand the complexity of forces that influence health and the wide-scope of interventions in community settings that must be addressed to improve health status, including efforts to improve education, employment, housing and the environment.
