Youth
outreach workers invited ten young men from Kuss Middle School to join
them on May 31, 2008, to clean up Griffin Park in the Corky Row section
of the City. Conceived of as a way of young people taking ownership of
their neighborhood, the project began during a discussion at the recent
Youth Summit.
"This is a way for these young men to begin to see what they can do to
improve their own neighborhood," commented Youth Outreach Worker Dan
Fitzgerald who helped to organize the event. "These young men
enthusiastically pitched in to clear the park of debris in very short
order on a rainy Saturday morning when they could have stayed home," he
added. The project is one of a number of activities organized by the
Youth Outreach program under the City's
Shannon
Grant and funded by the
Weed and
Seed grant. For more information about
the project, contact Youth Services Director
