PARTNERS | HEALTHY CITY  | HOW HEALTHY | VISION | SUMMIT | PRIORITIES | FUNCTIONS | CITY OF FALL RIVER

One of the course requirements for students in the Personal and Community Health course at Bristol Community College (BCC) is to do some type of community project that improves the health of the community. Students in the Fall 2009 class elected to participate in a clean-up of one of Fall River parks and chose Kelly Park in the City's South End. Working in teams, the students made quick work of cleaning the park of litter and trash on October 19th. This event addresses one of the Healthy City priority areas of Cleaner Streets and Parks throughout the city The course helps the student develop standards and principles of good health for the adult based on scientific research. It provides for study in attitudes and practices as they influence effective living, common adult health problems, significant diseases and public health responsibilities, community health and services, and special problems of concern in the area of community health in a democratic society. For more information about the course, contact instructor Janice Velozo, M.Ed. at 508-730-9289.
