The annual 5K Spring Sprint fundraiser for the Greater Fall River Re-Creation Committee on May 2, 2009, included Wally the dog who joined dozens of human walkers as they headed to Heritage State Park, the Battleship USS Massachusetts, and along the Taunton River on the mile-long boardwalk to Bicentennial Park. Wally kept Jennifer Souza on her toes the whole way, except, of course, for a few stops to check out the scents of other canine walkers along the way. The highlight of the trip was a chance to meet Ace, the six-month-old Great Dane along the way. Wally recommends that all humans walk a lot for their health, as long as they always take their dog along (whether they have a dog or not!). Click here to see photos of the humans in the walk. (Top row) Wally is eager to get going after a quick stop to check the scents at the base of the stone work in front of the CD-REC building. (Middle row) Wally is one of the first to arrive at the Iwo Jima monument in Bicentennial Park, keeping Jen going at a good pace. (Bottom row, left) Gail Sarlo of Swansea introduces six-month-old Great Dane Ace to Wally. (Bottom row, center and right) Wally returns to 72 Bank Street still full of energy and looks forward to a nice drink of water.
