The City has coordinated cleanups in targeted areas in conjunction with neighborhood groups and community organizations to remove sand and litter from the streets and sidewalks. A group composed of volunteers organized on behalf of City Councilor Cathy Ann Viveiros also worked on a clean-up along State Route 79 on May 30, 2009. Neighborhood clean-ups took place last year in the Sandy Beach and Maplewood Neighborhoods, and others are planned by the City in coming weeks in the Bank Street, Lower Highlands Historic Downtown, Highland, North End, Father Kelly, Niagara, and Flint neighborhoods. Click here to read the announcement. Call the Department of Public Works at 508-324-2584 for information about how the city can assist residents with their own planned cleanup projects.
