The Diabetes Association, Inc. (DAI) held one of its weekly educational sessions for people with diabetes or those who have been determined to be pre-diabetic by their physicians as well as people caring for loved ones, on February 25, 2008. Former Cantina Cafe owner Henry Oliveira and Carolyn Pomfred were on hand to demonstrate ways that healthier foods can be incorporated into a diabetes-friendly diet. Preparations using whole grains and ways of making almost anything into a smoothie were among the items that Mr. Oliveira demonstrated for those gathered at the Diabetes Association headquarters at 170 Pleasant Street. This event was part of a series of monthly presentations offered during the winter and upcoming months. For more info on upcoming events, contact DAI adult program coordinator John Quintas at 508-672-5671.
