The Niagara-Maplewood Senior Center moved from it's Stafford Road location to 550 Tucker Street and celebrated with a grand opening on December 3, 2009. Mayor Robert Correia and City councilors Leo Pelletier and Steve Camara were on-hand to welcome seniors to the facility that formerly served as St. Elizabeth's Hall. Associate Council on Aging Director Pauline Gousie listed the improvements that the new facility will offer participants, including a fully functional kitchen and separate function rooms in addition to the large main hall. She also praised Center director Patti Linhares for her leadership and constant support of seniors. The Wippoorwills signing group serenaded the group with a medley of Christmas Carols. The facility is funded by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds made available by HUD provide programs such as job training for the unemployed, senior citizen programs and services provided for persons with disabilities and children of low-income families.
