The Massachusetts Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program promotes healthy alternatives for children and parents in their travel to and from school. It educates students, parents and community members on the value of walking and bicycling for travel to and from school. Matthew Wall of MassRIDES Safe Routes to School program returned to the Viveiros Elementary School on October 2nd to prepare children for the International Walk to School Day on October 7, 2009. Unfortunately, that day turned out to be a very rainy day so most children were not able to walk on that day but were encouraged to walk on other days. Click here for pictures of Matthew's first visit to the school in April, 2009. Click here and here for photos of last year's pilot walk-to-school programs. Click here for the Herald News article. For more information about the program, contact Children In Balance Project Manager Marcia Picard at 508-324-2228.
