The Fall River Public Library prepared young readers to "blast off" for a summer of reading that's "out of this world" on July 8, 2009 on the lawn in front of the Library. For the second consecutive year, the program has been sponsored by Rockland Trust. The program runs for six weeks and is designed to encourage children in preschool through grade five to continue reading when not in school. The program also encourages families to explore the Library's many resources. A nine-foot tall walk-in rocket ship greet eager readers as they enter the Children's Room this summer. The spacecraft will serve as the official summer reading chart, as well as the symbol for this year's theme celebrating the challenges of space exploration. Kick-off celebrations are also taking place at the south branch library and the east branch. Click here for photos of last year's event. For further information, contact Children's Librarian David Mello at 508-324-2700.
