Saint Anne's Hospital Cardiac Rehab employees started a seven-week program on April 1, 2009 to develop the aerobic endurance of ten individuals who are willing to walk in either the American Heart Walk on May 2, 2009 and/or the Hudner Oncology Center's Get Moving Walk on May 16, 2009. Exercise physiologist Derek Paiva and Diabetes Educator Rose Resendes have teamed up to offer a "Step It Up" walking club every weekday at the Hospital. The group meets at noon at the hospital, dons their Get Moving tee-shirts and pedometers and then heads out to walk around the Hospital and then around Kennedy Park. "This is definitely an enthusiastic group" comments Derek. "I think they'll have no trouble making either of the 5K walks." The Heart Walk is held at Colt State Park in Bristol, and the Get Moving walk is held at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School on the City's East Side. For more information, contact Derek Paiva at 508-674-5600 x2392 or Anne Ferreira at 508-235-5294. (Photos by Mike Ramos)
