The Caritas Diabetes Center at Saint Anne's Hospital and Lifeline Medical and Diabetic Supplies of Swansea, with media partner Radio Voz do Emigrante/WHTB 1400 AM  held their eighth annual “Decoding Diabetes” health fair for adults with diabetes and their families on April 17, 2010 at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School on Stonehaven Road. Hundreds of area residents visited exhibits and demonstrations by diabetes product manufacturers, informational booths, presentations by medical experts in Portuguese and English about diabetes-related health issues, and area resources for people diagnosed with diabetes. Also offered to participants were diabetes-friendly snacks chosen by Saint Anne's Hospital registered dietitians. Speakers included Laurie Hammontree, RD, LDN, CDE, certified diabetes educator, Rose Marie Couto, RN, CDE, diabetes nurse educator of the Caritas Diabetes Center, children's dietitian Kathleen Bucklin, RD, and Chad Cabeceiras, MS, exercise physiologist.
