Plans for an eventual passenger rail link between Fall River and Boston include the development of a depot station to be located along the existing rail corridor that parallels Route 79. The public had a chance to participate in the planning process by attending a workshop on January 13, 2010 held at the Waterstreet Cafe. Over 100 people gathered to hear a brief presentation of current plans and to have an opportunity to ask questions or to make recommendations to the project designers. Current South Coast Rail plans include foot and bicycle connections between neighborhoods, the station and the nearby waterfront that will have a pedestrian-friendly urban boulevard lined with attractive buildings and not parking.
