Thursdays could soon see fresh produce and artwork for sale on Old Second Street behind the Academy and Hudner Apartment buildings if Mayor Flanagan's plans pan out. A meeting with local farmers and managers of the two apartment buildings looked at the feasibility of such a market to start on July 15th. Mayor Will Flanagan met with the affected parties on June 28, 2010 in the space that is under consideration. A plaza that runs for a little over 300 feet from the new Fall River Justice Center to Sullivan Drive next to Government Center would be used to set up a small number of fresh produce vendors and local artists. Both people who work downtown as well as over 1,000 people who live in the downtown area would be able to easily access the market. The space could also serve as a venue for evening artist exhibits or even performances during the monthly restaurant strolls. The market would add to the one at Kennedy Park and the other at Ruggles Park. Click here for the Fall River Herald News article.
