At each of the parks where Community Development Re-creation (CD-REC) is running a Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), young people are getting ready for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games to be held on August 24th at B.M.C. Durfee High School. Teams from each of the parks will compete in a series of team events designed to maximize participation and to get everyone active. Children were encouraged to practice for the events during the weeks preceeding the Olympic event at Durfee. The project was underwritten by Healthy City Fall River to ensure that, in addition to receiving a nutritious lunch at each of the parks, children would be encouraged to participate in vigorous activity for at least part of the time. Similar games were run at the National Night Out event at Griffin Park on August 3rd. For more information about the programs, contact CD-REC at 508-679-0922.
