After receiving training to prepare them to be sworn in and to serve on the City Council, School Committee, Parks Board and the Library Board, ten students from B.M.C Durfee and Diman Regional Vocational Technical high schools were sworn in by Mayor Robert Correia in his Government Center office during the last week in December, 2009. The selection was part of the newly-enacted Youth Bill of Rights that specified a larger role for young people in City affairs. The youth will have a voice in the meetings but will not be able to vote. The young people had applied for and were selected to serve, including six alternates who were selected in the event others are un able to serve at any point. Two of the youth were also sworn in at the School Committee meeting held on January 11, 2010. Click here for the Herald News article.
