The Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) program of the BOLD (Building Our Lives Drug-free) Coalition sponsored a Team Retreat training on Social Marketing at Stanley Street Treatment & Resources on February 17, 2011. Taught by Sarah Parmenter and Deepani Jinadasa of the Southeast Center for Healthy Communities, the three-hour program covered the theory of social marketing, the role of fear in marketing, and the "4 Ps" of social marketing. Participants were then challenged to create a marketing plan using the Strategic Prevention Framework. "It was a terrific opportunity to not only learn the techniques of social marketing but also to start to use the principles in a hands-on exercise," stated BOLD Coalition director Craig Gaspard. Participants plan to use the techniques in designing future messages that discourage the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among young people in the Greater Fall River Area.
