A group of volunteers joined Congressman James McGovern to begin planting in a new community garden in the Bank Street Tot Lot, just behind the Salvation Army Headquarters on Bedford Street. Volunteers who worked on the garden included neighbors from the Bank Street Neighborhood Association and staff and children from the Salvation Army after school program. Congressman McGovern is an advocate of community gardens in his role as in the establishment USDA Food for Education program and an advocate of programs to reduce "food desserts." Congressman McGovern recently met with members of the Worcester Garden Club in his advocacy for community gardens. Click here for a letter from Congressman McGovern in the Herald News.
